This illustration was created for a course titled Editorial Illustration that I took at UWEC. We were tasked with finding 10 articles of any nature and sketching ideas for an illustration that could have possibly paired with the article. The article I chose was titled No poop for you: Manure supplies run short as fertilizer prices soar published by Reuters in 2022. I chuckled when I read the title of this article, and felt that it could be well-translated into a humorous illustration. It was important to me that the tone of the drawing suited the tone of the article.
I felt a reference towards the universally-recognizable piggy bank would connect with the widest audience, while still grounding it in a farmer's pasture of green. Finally, the pennies were drawn in a manner and placement as to drum up images of cow feces, without being crass or disgusting. The style of this piece was meant to be as smooth and readymade in appearance as possible, with the grass being the natural exception.
